The news dropped as a bomb. Our dear member and beloved Honorary President of AKSP, President of the National Karate Federation of Portugal (FNK-P) and member of the Portuguese Olympic Committee (COP), João Salgado, died suddenly this morning at his home.
The Directorate of AKSP Seigokan Portugal, in particular its National Technical Director, Jose Santana Shihan, its President, Francisco Altino Morais Sensei, its General-Secretary, Eduardo Lopes and all other Board members, ...endorse the bereaved family their deepest condolences.
João Salgado was one of ours from the beginning, since the introduction of Seigokan in Portugal, way back in 1975 and had a leading role in the founding of our Association (AKSP).
But it was mainly in his activity within the National Karate Federation, which some years ago was playing this part, that have distinguished him within the National and International Karate.
This year was crowned his prestigious and effortful activity under Sports Federalism, with his re-election to the Organs of the National Olympic Committee (COP).
The Seigokan is mourning. The National Karate is mourning. The National Sports mourns.
The body of João Salgado will be in burning chamber from 18:30 in the Church of Alcântara, located in Calçada da Tapada, in Lisbon.
The funeral mass will take place at 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4, at the Church of Alcantara. The funeral will be held at 11am at the cemetery of Ajuda, in Lisbon.
